No dirty laundry: helping Phnom Penh's biggest public hospital.
Commercial Laundry Solutions donated, refurbished and hand-installed four Electrolux washers and a dryer at the Khmer Soviet Friendship Hospital — a 600-bed facility handling up to 800 patients a day, previously running on a single washing machine.
The situation
One washing machine. 600 beds. 800 patients a day.
The Khmer Soviet Friendship Hospital is the largest public hospital in Cambodia. With a single working washing machine serving the entire facility, linen was not being properly cleaned — driving up infection and mortality rates on the wards.
Kareen Stuart, an Australian advocate for infection control at the hospital, approached our team looking for help. It was the kind of problem we deal with every day in Western Australia — just at a scale, and with stakes, that made walking away impossible.
What we did
Donated four machines, flew over, installed them ourselves.
- Donated four reconditioned Electrolux commercial washing machines and a dryer to the hospital.
- Partnered with Electrolux Professional, who contributed around $6,000 in parts to refurbish the machines to spec.
- Sponsored five years of laundry chemicals to keep the hospital running long after the install.
- Members of our leadership team travelled to Phnom Penh at their own expense to install the machines and train hospital staff on their use.
